Podcast Episode 7 – Travel Tech
I’m Bily Foster and I’m that iPad guy
Called that because I’ve almost always got iPad with me, and in some cases two!
This week I’m going to talk about Traveling Tech!
This next week I’m hitting the road and heading to San Diego and I thought… what a great time to talk about what tech I take on a road trip.
For my mobile office I take my MacBook Air, my ‘new iPad’, my iPad 2 and I load them into my iBackflip somersault.
Why two iPads? Well there are a couple of reasons. The new iPad insures that I have connectivity by becoming a hotspot for the iPad 2 and the MacBook Air. With the way my bag is configured I can load up my iPad 2 into the flip out case and I have quick access to a screen while out and about. This also distributes how much battery I consume by using the iPad 2 for things like directions, or quick answers to emails while I’m out.
Once I’m settled and working, I’ll have iPads on the side of my MacBook Air. That frees up my computer from needed to have email, facebook , twitter or other apps running while I’m working but still keeps me updated and connected.
What accessories do I bring? Well I actually like to try and keep it pretty slim. I get everything into my bag. I bring a couple of smart covers. My Square dongle for taking credit cards, a backup iPhone that I also use as a camera. We pack up the Zagg Spaq for additional power in a pinch and couple mini-x speakers.
The Zagg Sparq has two USB charging ports, the top is the ‘optimized’ for iPad or rapid iPhone charge. It will charge and iPhone in a couple hours, and I think it does it about 1 1/2 times before it needs to be charged again. It charges the iPad 2 to about 67% but I believe I only get like 25% charge on the new iPad. I also like that when we are in for the night I can charge both my iPad and the iPhone via one power jack. It’s nice to wake up and have the Sparq, iPhone and iPad charged and ready to go each morning.
The mini-x speakers are incredible. They are nice and portable, and you can twist to pop it open to get some bass out of them. I really don’t think you are going to be able to tell how loud these baby get. But let me try and do an example. This is the single best part of these speaker too, first I power up one, then I’ll hook up the others. Now let me turn them on one by one.
And as you can tell with each speaker I turn on the volume increases.
