Audio Podcast: Episode 5 – Battery Saving Tips
I’m Bily Foster and I’m that iPad guy
Called that because I’ve almost always got iPad with me, and in some cases two!
Today I’m going to give you some tips on how to conserve you battery.
This information is specifically about iOS devices but some of the same principles work across-the-board on different mobile devices, wither it be Android or Windows.
- Shut Down Apps Running in the Background
Starting with iOS 4 multitasking was allowed for third-party applications, now it’s not true multitasking. But it does let services run in the background which in turn use your battery. On the iPhone the way to check what applications are running background is to double tap click the home button twice really fast. You can do the same on an iPad or you can put four fingers on the screen and swipe up. Either way you should see a bar of icons. These icons are other programs are running in the background. If you swipe from right to left you’ll see additional programs/icons that are running. Again it’s not true multitasking so not all of these are necessarily draining your battery however some of them may be running different services that would be draining the battery. To shut down the program press and hold an icon start to jiggle and you’ll notice you’ll have the minus symbol. Tap that symbol and it will shut the App down. As you can see I have a lot of applications running in the background and I can just keep tapping the same part of the screen to close each one of these out one at it a time.
- Turn off Wi-Fi when You Are Away for Extended Periods
And Vice versa
- Turn Off Cell when you are Home (more specifically for iPad of course)
- Adjust your Brightness Settings
Based on my environment I am constantly adjusting my brightness settings so that I can try and get the most out of my battery. You can set this to auto however I tend to like it a little darker than the average person so I tend to do it manually
- Turn off Bluetooth
If you’re not using devices there isn’t any reason to have it on, you can turn it on when you actually need
- Check Your Location Service Permissions
While having location aware apps is cool it’s not always necessary so check which apps are asking for location information. You can check this under privacy, locations
- Turn Off Equalizer
Did turn off the equalizer, go inside of settings, general, music, equalizer, turn off
- Adjust Your Auto Lock to Sooner
These are just a few tips on how to get the most out of your battery thanks for watching! And be sure to ‘Like’ me on Facebook, ‘Follow’ me on Twitter and subscribe at http://thatipadguy.com
